The ECNC- European Centre for Nature Conservation and UNEP are pleased to announce the second European Conference on Regions and Biodiversity:
‘Local action for biodiversity: the role of regions’
This conference will be hosted by and take place at the Committee of the Regions (CoR) in Brussels, Belgium on 19 and 20 November 2013.
The purpose of this conference is to address the role sub national governments can play in initiating, stimulating and supporting local biodiversity initiatives by citizens, NGOs and other stakeholders, in partnership with local and regional governments. It will bring together representatives of regions and local authorities in Europe, as well as other interested stakeholders and governments.
The highlights of the conference are:
- Implementation of Green Infrastructure and nature restoration;
- The role of citizen science to monitor the state and trends in biodiversity and drivers of biodiversity change;
- Biodiversity communication, education, public awareness;
- Implementation at local levels of The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity - TEEB.
In line with the thematic areas of the event, two side events will take place: a Local Biodiversity Projects Fair to showcase the local and regional practices as well as an international photo competition on “Beautiful Europe – man & nature”.
